Justifications by Jodie Rose McLoughlin

When are you going to let go
of constant expectation?
Stop stumbling,
fumbling,
tripping over convoluted  explanations?
Burdens unnecessary.
A heavy cross.
Your shoulders were never designed to carry.
Others!
Always about!
What they MIGHT say
what they MAY think.
Never knowing either way.
The little person inside
continues to shrink.
Sink
Under the weight
of questions.
Why haven’t you?
When will you?
How come you didn’t?
Think!
Oh look another mistake.
The detractors rub their hands with mirth,
secretly.
Or look downcast,
with pity.
Tell you
it’s a shame
that things rarely work out
For you
You are
so pretty
Awfully
Negative
They think.
Often told that your attitude stinks
By those who do not understand
What it’s like to be dealt this hand
Of anxiety
Constantly
Boringly
Imploringly
Asking permission
to be yourself.
Trying and crying
Just dying
For health
For another chance
To prove yourself
Worthy
Because you know you are
Worth more than these.
Constant
Justifications
