On the Foothills of Kilimanjaro by Alexandru Ioan Popa

Will be to come, don’t doubt, my hope,
those who will try with unashamed step to shadow all your leaves,
as fall is merciless and winter doesn’t know forgiveness for the trees.
The same are they who envy my warm cradle
with their icicle hunting for my chest.
Will be that shadow who will try to rust your dream
don’t curse, don’t scream, it seems that evil
sneaks through the same old cracks inside
and from the all books that I was certain
could not be written anymore,
the synaxaire was first but proved wrong, my hope –
you died as in Sebaste
only that now you bleed
on the foothills of Kilimanjaro…
