Jeremy by James Laurie

*Wearing glasses*

I saw Jeremy in Aldi the other day
I think it was Jeremy
He was wearing shorts
It was cold
He was wearing Jeremy’s beard
I was wearing glasses
He didn’t say ‘hello’
He was feeling shallots
Maybe it wasn’t him
I didn’t say ‘hello’
I was squeezing a squash
Maybe it wasn’t him

That’s the funny thing with social anxiety
When you see someone you know and they don’t see you
Or maybe they do see you
And they don’t say hello
Or maybe they are suffering too
And wonder why you don’t say ‘hello’
Or maybe they made a mistake too

*Wearing a hipster beard*

I saw James in Aldi the other day
I think it was James
But he was wearing glasses
James doesn’t wear glasses
And what’s he doing in this part of town
And why didn’t he say ‘hello’?

I must tell him next time I see him
How I saw his doppelgänger
And how I nearly made a mistake
And said ‘hello’ to a stranger
In glasses
James doesn’t wear glasses
Does he?
