Cubbing by Di Coffey

The vixen crouches.

Do her fear-filled eyes

remember yesterday

..

when hunters,

intent on blood,

dug her young

from their earth,

tossed them to dogs?

..

She’ll follow instinct,

mate in winter’s depths.

A male will answer

her fecund scream;

more cubs, more “sport”

for next autumn.

..

So we join The League,

go on demos

and sabotage,

and sabotage

and sabotage.

..

Di Coffey’s poems have been widely published online and in print.
Her debut collection – a poetry pamphlet in aid of multiple sclerosis – is available from: www.thetugboatmansdaughter.co.uk
