Asifa Buried, by Joseph K. Wells

A country
of many
gods that live
in men,
just men,
and goddesses
many,
now lifeless,
who exist merely
in rote hymns
and flash protests
that adorn
ceremoniously
until candles melt
into the usual
life that goes
on and on
until it’s time
to bow
to pray
or prey
again.
