Migrants, by Mariangela Canzi

Migrants here have sailed
to reach a Promised Land.
Daring a new life
beyond a foreign sea.
Death suddenly
seized them all.
Their wounded bodies
a black sea
has welcomed.
Their lost eyes
look in wonder
at the bright sky.
In the weeping sky
screams and prayers
have flown up.
To the bottom
wishes and hopes
have sunk.
