Who would make such a cruel world? by Will Coster

Who would make such a cruel world?
No one knowingly.
But its genesis lies in a thousand tiny selfish actions,
A million little unkindnesses,
The life-long disdain for humanity.
So vote by vote,
And brick by brick,
We raised these towers of Babel.
These palaces of poverty,
Are the storehouses of spite,
Hidden by the cladding of contempt.
If no one set the spark,
And we never fanned the flame,
We still laid the grate.
Who would make such a cruel world?
There is no one in it but us.
