My One. My Only. by Tanya Pritchard

You took my breath away when you asked me to take your hand.
because only you, you promised, could really understand.
I put my trust in you believing your every word
you knew how it felt. You spoke of all your hurt.
You spoke of your life and how you had been mistreated
You were looking for a woman like me
You whispered your life is now compete
And if from out of nowhere
I woke and knew, my life was now a nightmare.
Words of kindness were soon replaced
It was my fault you screamed
and then came your words of hate
For those eyes and hands of yours
had changed now behind closed doors.
along with degradation.
But I awoke and escaped.
The shards of pain with my life in bits
My one… My only… the  narcissist
